Long connected to fishing due to its proximity to Georges Bank, the town is located in the heart of the world's largest lobster fishing grounds and as a result receives Canada's largest lobster landings each year.

In the year prior, Martin Pink, in partnership with Hugh Jon Fraser and Andrew Nickerson, purchased the building located at 390 Main Street in Yarmouth that had been occupied for a number of years by the Yarmouth law firm Chipman Sanderson.
